Patient Group Direction (PGDs)
Patient Group Directions (PGDs) are used to support a number of services in the NHS such as minor injuries and out of hours services
The back ground to their use, is set out in the NICE guidelines [MPG2] Published date: August 2013
This provides good practice recommendations for the systems and processes used when commissioners and providers of NHS services are considering the need for, developing, authorising, using and updating Patient Group Directions. This guideline also covers governance arrangements with the aim of ensuring patients receive safe and appropriate care and timely access to medicines, in line with legislation.
The documents below are currently used in the Minor Injury Units (MIU) and Out of Hour (OOH) services in east Kent
They are provided here for information purposes only. PGD documents are only valid once signed by the departmental leads from the relevant organisations in line with the above NICE recommendations
